BridgeWay’s Elders “Come to Jesus”

BridgeWay’s Elder Team has a number of sayings, and one of them is “The fish stinks from the head down.” What that means is that a church is never stronger than its leadership, and so for BridgeWay to be right with God our elders must be right with each other. That is why each May we come together for what we call our annual “Come to Jesus” meeting.

At our annual “Come to Jesus” meeting, each Elder is affirmed for their strengths and challenged in their weaknesses. To work effectively as a team we must keep “short accounts” with each other, and if there is any conflict beneath the radar screen it must be resolved. Then each elder must be unanimously affirmed by the entire team or he is “voted off the island.”

After faithfully serving on BridgeWay’s Elder Team now for seven years, Chris Zaugg has voted himself off the island. Don’t worry, Chris will continue leading on Sunday mornings, and will be giving even more time and energy leading BridgeWay’s worship teams. I want to thank him publicly for his service, and I will continue to value his wisdom and counsel.

Next week BridgeWay’s members will be receiving packets which will enable them to make leadership recommendations not only for the Elder Team, but also for our Director and Shepherding Teams. Please take time to review the biblical qualification for these leadership positions, and submit your signed recommendation cards by Sunday, June 27th.
