"Leaders lead not by merit of temperament or gifts, but by living a life that is so compellingly like Christ that others naturally want to follow them. To follow them to Christ." -Joseph Stowell, Shepherding the Church into the Twenty-First Century
The Bible talks about our being God’s ambassadors–His own spokespersons–to our world (2 Corinthians 5). As God’s representative in every minute of my day, every facet of my life reflects His presence and influence (or the lack thereof). Each time I interact with my wife, son, friends, coworkers, and even the barista at Starbucks, my life says something about Jesus.
What might happen if I focused less on what specific tasks I accomplish and more on how those tasks are getting done… less on what specific words I speak and more on how my communication affects the people around me? I so desire my life to point others to Christ, both in my intentional interactions and in my unguarded moments! My prayer is that our lives will be utterly transformed by Christ–to the extent that people who encounter us will naturally encounter Him, and leave them longing for more.
